Zeal Rentals Website and Communications Privacy Policy — 7 September 2026
This statement sets out the policies of EIO Rentals Ltd trading as Zeal Rentals (“Zeal Rentals”, “we”, “us”, “our”), relating to the collection and use of your personal information on our website and through our other communications with you.
Your Personal Information Is Important to Us
We recognise that your privacy is important and that you have a right to control your personal information. We acknowledge that providing personal information is an act of trust and we take this responsibility seriously. The following sections set out how we process and protect your personal information and safeguard your privacy.
What Information We Collect
In the course of arranging and providing a vehicle rental, we may collect the following types of personal information about you:
- Your name, contact details (email, phone, address) and date of birth;
- Your driver’s licence details;
- Identity documents and, where required, passport information;
- Payment card and billing information;
- Rental history, vehicle condition reports, and any incident or accident reports relating to your rental;
- Correspondence and enquiries you send us, including through our website contact forms.
We collect this information because it is required to enter into and administer a Rental Agreement with you, to verify your identity and eligibility to drive, to process payment, and to meet our legal and insurance obligations.
How We Collect Information About You
Whenever you visit the Zeal Rentals website, our servers automatically record information about your usage, such as the time of the visit, duration, and the pages you visit. This helps us understand which parts of our website our users find useful. This automatically collected information remains anonymous. We may also record telephone calls made to any of our business phone numbers.
Our Use of Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are pieces of information that a website transfers to your device for record-keeping purposes. Most web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. If you do not wish to receive cookies, you may set your browser to refuse them, though this may mean you cannot take full advantage of parts of our website.
Our website currently uses the following third-party tools that may set cookies or process data on our behalf:
- Meta (Facebook) Pixel — used for website analytics and to measure and tailor advertising on Facebook and Instagram;
- Google reCAPTCHA — used to protect our contact and enquiry forms from spam and automated abuse;
- Google Analytics — used to understand how visitors use our website, such as which pages are viewed and how long visitors stay, so we can improve our website.
These tools do not identify you personally as a user; they identify your browser or device.
How We Use and Disclose Your Information
We will not disclose any information about you without your consent unless it is:
- Required by law or to enforce our rights;
- Necessary in order to provide you with a service you have requested, including insurance claims relating to your rental;
- Reasonably suspected to relate to a breach of the usual way our website or vehicles are meant to be used;
- Necessary to protect the rights or property of Zeal Rentals, our users, or any member of the public;
- Disclosed to third parties legitimately seeking to recover debts, fines, or charges incurred as a result of your use of the vehicle (see our Rental Agreement, Section E.4);
- Necessary to lessen a serious threat to a person’s health or safety.
We will never share your personal information with a third party for that party’s own direct marketing purposes without your explicit consent.
Communicating with You
From time to time we may send you offers from Zeal Rentals or from our associated partners, email communications or newsletters to which you have subscribed. You can manage the type of information you receive from us by:
- Unsubscribing from the message you receive; or
- Advising us via the contact form on our website (please allow seven days for this request to be processed).
Overseas Disclosure of Information
Some of the service providers we use to run our business are based overseas or store information on servers located outside New Zealand. This currently includes our payment processing provider, image and website hosting provider, and email service provider. Where we disclose personal information to an overseas provider, we take reasonable steps to ensure that provider is required to protect the information in a way that provides comparable safeguards to the Privacy Act 2020, consistent with Information Privacy Principle 12.
How Long We Keep Your Information
We are currently finalising a formal data retention schedule for the different categories of personal information we hold. Until that schedule is in place, we retain personal information only for as long as is reasonably necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, including to meet our legal, accounting, insurance, and reporting obligations, after which it is securely deleted or de-identified.
How We Store Your Information and Keep It Secure
We take reasonable care and required steps to keep secure any information we hold about you and to keep it accurate and up to date. Your information is stored on secure servers protected in controlled facilities.
Our employees and any contractors who provide services related to our information systems are required to respect the confidentiality of any personal information we hold. However, we cannot be held responsible for events arising from unauthorised access to your personal information that occurs despite these reasonable precautions.
If a Privacy Breach Occurs
If we become aware of a privacy breach involving your personal information that we believe has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will assess the breach and, where required under the Privacy Act 2020, notify both the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and any affected individuals as soon as practicable.
How You Can Access Your Information
